Information about changes regarding the area around the Elbe Dam.

Historically, this small plot of land directly adjacent to the road belonged to the Hradec Králové Region, which transferred it to the city free of charge in 2021 on the condition that it not be used for commercial purposes for a period of 10 years from the date the transfer of ownership took legal effect in the land registry, and that the city not generate any revenue from this property.

Since then, the city has been working on how to develop the area so that it is safe, well-maintained, and better serves both local residents and visitors. Therefore, negotiations are underway with the region to build an official parking area with a paved surface, organized parking, and appropriate facilities. Parking revenues are to be set at a level that helps cover the costs associated with the construction and maintenance of the area.

Unfortunately, the administrative process required to officially classify the area as a “parking lot” and establish a fee schedule has not yet been completed. For this reason, parking has been free of charge until now. However, experience over the past few months has shown that the current situation is not sustainable in the long term. There has been unorganized parking, long-term vehicle abandonment, and parking of recreational vehicles and trucks. Vehicles often park outside designated areas or obstruct the roadway.

At the same time, the city has repeatedly had to deal with disorder and increased maintenance costs. It was therefore necessary to close the area to unauthorized parking.

For this reason, work is now proceeding intensively on project preparation and the approval process so that the area can have clear rules, a safer operating regime, and appropriate facilities.
