MOUNTAIN RESCUE SERVICE OPENS NEW STATIONS IN ŠPINDL
During the upcoming winter season, the Mountain Rescue Service will operate from two new facilities above Špindlerův Mlýn in the Krkonoše Mountains.
The Mountain Rescue Service in the Krkonoše Mountains is expanding its scope of operations with two brand new stations in Medvědín and Pláně. This great news brings hope for safer winter seasons above Špindlerův Mlýn: no more compromises in the form of unsuitable rented premises and the beginning of modern, professional facilities right where they are most needed.
Both winter stations are already complete, each representing an investment of approximately CZK 6 million. This is a clear statement that investing in the safety of tourists, skiers, and mountain visitors is a priority. The new stations will serve as bases for rapid and effective interventions in exposed locations.
The station in Medvědín is designed primarily for areas such as Mísečky, Zlaté návrší, and Kotle—places where large numbers of people travel in winter and where terrain conditions are often challenging. The station in Pláně will cover the sector towards Klínové boudy and Strážné, another frequented area of the Krkonoše Mountains.
Each of the new stations will accommodate three mountain rescuers, who will have access to a treatment room and full technical facilities. This means faster response times, more professional care on site, and better coordination options for larger interventions. The idea that rescuers will no longer have to operate from makeshift or remote locations but will be deployed right in the middle of the action is truly encouraging. For visitors to the mountains, this means a greater sense of security and a real guarantee of help in emergency situations.
The new facilities will not only be practical, but will also provide greater comfort for rescuers, which will have a positive impact on their working conditions and thus on the quality of the assistance they provide. Modern equipment, stable facilities, and well-located stations—all of this together strengthens the ability to respond to unexpected situations, minimize risks, and save lives.
We are looking forward to the first winter season when these services will be fully operational — every second and every well-located facility can decide the fate of those who go to the mountains to enjoy the beauty of snow and nature.
