The Krkonoše Beer Trail: Five microbreweries, thirty kilometers, 1,161 meters of elevation gain, and the Krkonoše Mountains to boot. This route is sure to appeal to anyone who loves good beer, mountain scenery, and challenges that get the body moving.

The Krkonoše Beer Trail takes you through the most beautiful parts of the highest Czech mountains. You can look forward to challenging climbs, breathtaking views, beer at mountain huts, and an atmosphere you won’t want to leave.

We recommend setting out for the weekend. Start on Friday evening, spend the night at one of the mountain huts, and then enjoy the trail at a leisurely pace. For example:

1. Friday – to Malá Úpa

Park your car in Vrchlabí, where your route will end on Sunday. There is a direct bus from there to Horní Malá Úpa, right to the first stop on the beer trail—the Trauntenberk Brewery. Get yourself thirsty now for the beer of the same name, which is refreshing, crisp, and just the right amount of bitter. You’ll stay comfortably in cozy rooms, a dorm for a group of friends, or a dormitory.

 2. Saturday – via Pec pod Sněžkou to Friesovky

On this 20-km hike, the most beautiful parts of the mountains, divine views, and plenty of elevation challenges await you. Regular refreshment stops with a cold pint and (not only) Krkonoše delicacies to snack on will make conquering them easier. You’ll set off from Malá Úpa through Eliščino Valley, taking your first break at Krmelec below Kraví hora. From there, you’ll head down to Spálený Mlýn and climb up to Růžohorky via Portášky. A blueberry dumpling or pie is practically a must here. Will you make it all the way to Sněžka?

Day 3 – Sunday – via Strážné to Vrchlabí

On the final day, an easy descent through Strážné to Vrchlabí awaits you. Your final stop is the Pivovarská bašta hotel, where you’ll enjoy a tasting of Medvěd beer. Brewed with Žatec hops using the classic three-mash method, this beer has already earned a reputation among mountain hikers.

At the finish, hand in your completed flyer with stamps, and a reward awaits you. Plus, you’ll be entered into a raffle where you can win additional prizes. At Pivovarská bašta, you can wrap up your trip with a good lunch and a farewell beer.

Collect stamps and earn rewards

You certainly won’t need much convincing to try all the beers—it’s the only way to choose the one closest to your heart. Plus, you’ll get to enter a contest for great prizes.

Participating Breweries

As you explore the trail, you’ll have the chance to sample unique beers from small local breweries. Each one has its own distinctive character and story. You might even hear the story straight from the brewer himself, as most breweries offer guided tours where you can watch the brewing process up close.

Friesovy boudy Mountain Hotel
We brew Fries beer using Czech malt and hops, and we pride ourselves on the quality of the spring water that flows from the source at Friesovy boudy. This water, which our local microbrewery uses, gives the beer its unmistakable taste and color.

Trautenberk Brewery
The Trautenberk Brewery is one of the newest additions to the family of Krkonoše microbreweries. It was built in the village of Malá Úpa, at house number 87, on the premises of the former Tippeltova bouda, later known as the Družba Hotel. They brew beer without pasteurization or filtration—refreshing, crisp, and just the right amount of bitter.

Pecký Brewery
Enjoy their beer in the beautiful surroundings of the Krkonoše Mountains. They offer a total of four varieties of Sněžka beer, each with different alcohol content and flavors. The beer-making process is very precise. Above all, they pay close attention to cleanliness during brewing, the correct temperature, the quality of ingredients, the length of fermentation, and the quality of the beer’s bottling.

Hendrych Brewery, Vrchlabí
The story of this brewery began similarly—with a dream of a family business that makes great Czech products. Ideas and plans took shape gradually. In 2012, they completed the necessary preparations and launched the beer in September. Since then, they have been committed to quality—full-bodied, bitter, and distinctive beer. You can taste the beer at Friesovy boudy.

Vrchlabí Brewery
The foundation of the local Medvěd beer is a classic 12° Czech-style light lager, brewed using the traditional three-mash process, which has earned the Czech Pilsner-style beer its worldwide reputation and made it a global phenomenon. Its intense yet delicate bitterness comes from Žatec semi-early red hops, a classic Czech hop variety.
