NEW PHOTO SPOT AT SLUNEČNÍ KAMENY

Špindlerův Mlýn

The bench, shaped like the wings of a grouse, invites you to rest and reflect.

Špindlerův Mlýn has another spot worth visiting.

An original bench inspired by the black grouse—one of the rarest and most endangered species in the Krkonoše Mountains—has been newly installed at the lookout point near the Sluneční kameny.

This new feature combines an attractive spot to relax with a reminder of how important it is to protect the unique mountain environment.

Following the popular Angel Wings near the White Bridge, another striking photo spot has been created in the town. This time, however, it takes visitors outside the center to a viewpoint offering beautiful views of Špindlerův Mlýn and the surrounding mountain landscape.

The bench’s shape resembles the spread wings of a black grouse. It is made of bent sheet metal with a Corten finish, which gives it a distinctive natural look and allows it to blend sensitively into the mountain environment.

In addition to providing a place to rest, it also serves as a landmark and a popular spot for photos.

The new installation is part of the Green Miller’s Trail—a short educational route leading through the town center, past the Rock Lookout and the Sun Stones, and back to the Miller’s statue. The entire trail is approximately 1.1 kilometers long and offers a pleasant walk suitable for families with children as well as recreational visitors.

The choice of the black grouse is no coincidence. This rare mountain bird is one of the symbols of the Krkonoše Mountains, and its population has long been sensitive to disturbance. Experts repeatedly point out that, for its survival, it needs above all sufficient peace and a preserved natural environment.

The new bench thus subtly reminds us of the importance of mindful movement in the mountain landscape.

The project builds on the Smoke-Free City initiative, thanks to which a number of new public space features have appeared in Špindlerův Mlýn in recent years. These include benches, trash cans, rest areas, and the popular Angel Wings, which have become one of the most photographed spots in the town.

The new Tetřívek bench expands the range of interesting stops in Špindlerův Mlýn while also conveying a symbolic message. It serves as a reminder that the mountain environment is not something to be taken for granted and that its beauty can only be preserved through the respect and consideration of visitors.

The next time you head to Sluneční kameny, don’t forget to stop for a moment. You’ll be rewarded not only with beautiful views and unique photos, but also with the chance to experience the Krkonoše Mountains a little more closely.
