HOW TO DRESS FOR THE MOUNTAINS IN SUMMER
In the summer, you can lighten your outfit a bit, but it is important to prepare for truly different situations. When hiking, you will often be left to rely on yourself, so choosing the right clothing is really important.
Weather changes are typical for the mountains. It is therefore important to monitor the forecast before each hike and above all not to underestimate the choice of the right clothing. The body warms up quickly during physical exertion, but it can also get cold quickly.
Bamboo fibre underwear
Especially suitable for people who hate hot weather. Bamboo fibres are slightly cooler in summer (2-3 °C) than cotton fibres.
Trek shirt made of synthetic fabric
A summer trekking shirt should above all effectively wick away moisture and provide thermal comfort. Forget cotton and opt for a sporty T-shirt made of quick-drying synthetic fabric. Synthetic material effectively wicks moisture away from the skin and is characterised by its short drying time.
Trekking trousers with detachable legs
The trekking trousers with detachable trouser legs are perfect for quickly adapting to the weather that will accompany you on your way to the summit, using the zippers to create comfortable shorts. If you're planning to hike in shorts after all, pack a pair of classic trousers as well.
Fleece sweatshirt or softshell
A fleece sweatshirt or softshell will protect your body from getting cold in case of bad weather.
The waterproof jacket
When the temperature drops, a warm sweatshirt will come in handy. But it won't protect you from the rain. So pack a jacket with a good membrane that won't let the drops in while still allowing your skin to breathe.
Mountaineering boots or lighter shoes
More and more hikers are walking in low boots in the mountains, but low boots are not suitable for everyone. They are worth considering, but only under certain conditions. Think about where you'll be hiking before you opt for them. Low boots are especially suitable for people who have been hiking for a long time and have a properly built foot. They are usually not very suitable if you are hiking in very difficult terrain, but not even if you are carrying an extremely heavy pack on your back.
Suitable socks
Outdoor stores make it easy to find socks designed for summer hiking in the mountains in both women's and men's versions. Ideally, they should be made from merino wool fibres (with some synthetic additives for added durability).
Sunglasses with filter
Quality eye protection is essential and a filter blocks UV rays.
Headgear, cap
Hiking or trekking backpack
Allows you to pack everything you need for your trip. Choose a hiking backpack for light hiking, backpacking and weekend trips, or an ultralight backpack for speed hiking, designed to get to the top quickly.
