INSTALLATION OF SUPPORTS FOR THE NEW CHAIRLIFT BEGINS IN ŠPINDL

Špindlerův Mlýn Ski Resort

This will be followed by the installation of the second bridge.

The link between the Svatý Petr and Medvědín ski areas in Špindlerův Mlýn is moving into the next significant phase.

In August, work will begin on erecting the supports for the new Audi Line Přehradní cable car, and on 18 and 19 August, the steel structure of the second bridge over the II/295 road will be installed.

The project, which is set to link the two main parts of the Špindlerův Mlýn ski resort in future, is thus taking on an increasingly concrete form. Once both bridges are complete, a continuous network of new ski runs and cable cars will be created, enabling skiers to move between Medvědín and Svatý Petr without having to use the ski bus or a car.

The first supports for the new cable car are already being installed

In mid-August, work is continuing on the installation of the supports for the new six-seater heated Audi Line Přehradní cable car. The foundation works for the supports are due to be completed by the middle of the month, after which their assembly will continue in the section between supports 5 and 9.

At the same time, work is underway on other parts of the overall project. Construction is continuing on the load-bearing reinforced concrete structures of the Hromovka 2 upper station, as well as on the structural elements of the lower station.

The new cable car will be one of the key elements of the first phase of the link. Following its planned commissioning in December 2026, it will offer fast and comfortable transport between Terminal P1 and the Svatý Petr complex.

“Following last year’s installation of the bridge over the River Elbe, another important moment in the entire project is now upon us. The installation of the second bridge and the completion of the cable car pylons are significant milestones, thanks to which the entire link is taking concrete shape,” said René Hroneš, director of the Špindlerův Mlýn Ski Resort.

The second bridge will span the road to Špindl

Another major milestone in August will be the installation of the steel structure for the second bridge. This is scheduled for 18 and 19 August 2026.

The bridge will span the II/295 road between Vrchlabí and Špindlerův Mlýn and will connect to the finish of the new Lesní downhill run.

This is a key component of the entire project. The first bridge over the River Elbe was installed back in November 2025. Together with the new bridge over the road, it will form the infrastructure that will enable a safe connection between the individual sections of the new ski run.

Once both bridges are completed, there will be a continuous link between the new Lesní and Přehradní ski runs and the P1 terminal.

And it is here that the future ski link between Medvědín and Svatý Petr will begin to take shape.

The Lesní ski run will be equipped with snowmaking facilities along its entire length

The current works do not only involve the cable car and bridges. Construction of the technical infrastructure is also continuing.

A new snowmaking system will be installed along the entire route of the new Lesní ski run, which will run from Medvědín to the P1 terminal. This will enable artificial snowmaking across the entire run and should help ensure more stable conditions for its operation during the winter season.

The P1 terminal will also become a key point in the first phase of the project and a new boarding point for the Audi Line Přehradní cable car.

What will happen in the autumn?

Work will continue even after the end of summer. Planned for the autumn are the assembly of the cable car’s technical components, the installation of the haul rope, the completion of the upper and lower stations, and the completion of the snowmaking system.

This will be followed by the final landscaping work.

If everything goes according to schedule, the first phase of the project will be commissioned in December 2026. This will include the new Audi Line Přehradní cable car, new ski runs and a link via both bridge structures.

And what about the link to Medvědín?

However, the first phase will not mark the end of the entire project.

Construction of a follow-on ten-seater gondola lift from Terminal P1 to Medvědín is due to begin in April 2027. Its completion is scheduled for the 2027/2028 winter season.

It is this cable car that will complete the full two-way connection between the two resorts.

Whilst just a few months ago the site was mainly occupied by foundations and construction work, individual parts of the future link are now becoming visible at first glance.

The cable car supports, two new bridges, the Lesní and Přehradní ski runs, and the P1 terminal – all these are pieces of one major project aimed at linking Medvědín and Svatý Petr.

And if construction goes according to plan, the first skiers will be able to enjoy the new route as early as the winter of 2026/2027.
