Webcam Krkonoše - Webkamera Vrbatova bouda - Zlaté návší 1400 m a.s.l.
On the webcam image in front of you you can see the majestic Kotel, whose altitude of 1435 m above sea level makes it the 10th highest mountain in the Czech Republic. In the past, it was also called Krkonoše or Kokrháč, in German Kesselkoppe.
On the slopes of Kotel there is also a mystical pilgrimage site called "Růženčina zahradka" (Rose Garden) with a mysterious circular mound made of stones.
The very top of Kotel is inaccessible, as it lies in the first zone of the Krkonoše National Park and there is no hiking trail leading to the top.
Vrbatova bouda was opened in 1964. It is named after the famous ski racer Václav Vrbata from Mříčná, who tragically died here on 24.3.1913 during an international ski race for 50 kilometers together with his friend Bohumil Hanč from Hrabačov.
The name of both competitors is also borne by the nearby Memorial of Hanč and Vrbata, which stands on a hill near Vrbatova bouda. Although it is not visible on the webcam image, it is located on the right side of the image.
The mound was created in 1925, commemorating this act of humanity and dedication.
Trips to the Memorial of Hanč and Vrbata have been described: here a summer trip and here a winter trip.
It is not possible to stay permanently at Vrbatova bouda, it is a refreshment and catering facility. There is a bus stop at Vrbatova bouda, which is in operation only in the summer season. Timetable here.
