THE FIRST SUPPORT PILLAR FOR THE NEW CHAIRLIFT IS ALREADY IN PLACE

Špindlerův Mlýn Ski Resort

The largest investment in the history of the Špindlerův Mlýn Ski Resort is moving into its next important phase.

Along the route of the new Audi Line Přehradní chairlift, which will connect the Svatý Petr and Medvědín areas, the first support pillar—including its head—has been completed. Construction is thus picking up pace, and the long-awaited connection between the two parts of the ski resort is becoming an increasingly visible reality.

Construction activity is now evident along the entire route of the future cable car. Workers are finishing the pillars of the lower station, preparing the foundations for additional support structures, and continuing earthwork in the area of the upper station.

In the coming days, a 55-metric-ton mobile crane will be deployed to the construction site to assist with the installation of the rear pillar of the lower station. At the same time, other construction work is underway to ensure the entire project proceeds according to schedule:

- 04/2026        Start of delivery of equipment for the Audi line Přehradní cable car, excavation for the lower station, and utility connections.

- 05/2026        Excavation for the upper station, clearing of the route, installation of snowmaking equipment on Medvědín, and commencement of work on the road bridge.

- 06/2026        Shaping of the Přehradní ski slope, landscaping of areas at P1, installation of equipment at the pumping station, and excavation across the Elbe River.

- 07/2026        Concrete pouring for the stations, installation of the cable car supports, and assembly of the steel structure for the road bridge.

- 08/2026        Cable installation (tensioning), completion of the lower station’s structural work, and clearing the route for the future cable car to Medvědín.

- 09/2026        Completion of station assembly, preparation for cable car testing, installation of snowmaking guns, and completion of the road bridge structure.

- 10/2026        Final landscaping and grassing of the ski slopes; completion of the surfaces at Parking Lot P1.

- 11/2026        Test operation of the cable car and inspections; launch of the complete snowmaking system in full operation.

- 12/2026        As-built survey, administrative procedures, and commencement of trial operation for the public.

The heart of the entire project will be a modern six-seat Leitner chairlift with heated seats and a protective canopy, offering significantly greater comfort and safety during travel.

The new chairlift will have:

- a length of 1.4 kilometers,

- a ride time of approximately 4 minutes,

- a transport capacity of up to 2,000 people per hour.

It will significantly improve connectivity between the two main parts of the ski resort and, at the same time, speed up skiers’ movement throughout the entire resort.

The first phase of the project will include more than just the cable car itself. Skiers can also look forward to the opening of the new Přehradní and Lesní ski runs, which will take them directly to the new cable car’s lower station.

At the same time, a new bridge over the Elbe River and a bridge over the road leading from Vrchlabí to Špindlerův Mlýn are being built. This will make travel between the different parts of the resort more convenient and safer.

If construction work proceeds according to plan, the assembly of the cable car’s mechanical components, the installation of the haul rope, and the installation of a new snowmaking system will begin in the fall.

The first test runs are scheduled for November, after which the chairlift will be ready to begin operations.

The connection between the Svatý Petr and Medvědín resorts is one of the most significant projects that the Špindlerův Mlýn Ski Resort has undertaken since its inception. It will not only enable faster travel between individual slopes but also provide greater comfort for visitors and further development of the largest Czech mountain resort.

If everything goes according to schedule, the first phase of the connection will be put into operation at the start of the 2026/2027 winter season.
